Best All Ages/18+ Venues and Clubs in Portland, Maine
Throughout high school and college, I was one of the few kids in my group of friends who didn’t want a fake ID, so I’d always be odd man out whenever they decided to hit the bars and put them to the test. Not cool.
Lucky for you though, that doesn’t have to happen because Portland has a handful of venues that frequently host all ages and 18+ events.
1. Styxx
A favorite among the GLBTQ culture in Portland, Styxx previously offered 18+ Tuesday Nights but recently posted on their Facebook page that they lost that privilege. In the meantime, while they figure out how to get a consistent 18+ night going again, they will be hosting a completely chem-free 18+ night on April 24th so don’t miss it!
2. Port City Music Hall
Port City has (in my humble opinion) one of the best sounding stages on Congress Street, and youngsters can rejoice because nearly all of their shows cater to the 18+ crowd. Win-win.
3. Bayside Bowl
Bayside combines many of my favorite things — bowling, music, food, beer, and a name that reminds me of Saved By The Bell. Minus the beer, this place is an all ages venue with tons of awesome events like Kill The Karaoke on Wednesdays.

Recently benefitting from a successful Kickstarter campaign, 131 Washington is a creative warehouse space in Portland on a mission to bring great art and loud music to Munjoy Hill. Their shows are all ages and chem-free, with a suggested $5 donation.
5. The New Venue
One of the more popular nightlife destinations in town, The New Venue is open 7 days a week for lunch, dinner, and late night dance party madness. Every Thursday is 18+ Ladies’ Night, and every Friday is an 18+ “Party Rock” situation. Just because you can’t drink yet doesn’t mean you can’t fist pump and get sweaty with the best of them!
6. One Longfellow Square
If you’re looking to have a seat and listen to great music, then One Longfellow is the place to do it. Their shows are all ages, and the tickets are a bit cheaper if you purchase them in advance. I saw The Barr Brothers and a few local acts there and I must say I was thoroughly impressed by the acoustics and atmosphere of One Longfellow. Can’t wait to get back in there.
